Scaffolding banners are custom-printed PVC or mesh graphics made to fix directly onto scaffold tubes, turning a temporary structure into working advertising space for the contractor on site. Printed Today produces scaffold banners in 510gsm PVC vinyl and 350gsm PVC mesh, cut to any width and height you specify, printed single or double-sided, and finished with eyelets, pole pockets, hemming or any combination of the three.
What separates a scaffold banner order from most print jobs is timing. Scaffolds go up at short notice, come down sooner than expected, and get damaged mid-job. How Fast Can You Get a Scaffolding Banner?
Same day, if you order early enough and collect. Scaffold banners run on five production tiers, and the clock starts from artwork approval rather than from when the order is placed — which means the single biggest factor in how fast your banner arrives is how quickly the file gets signed off.

Choosing Between 510gsm PVC and 350gsm Mesh Scaffolding Banners
Order 510gsm PVC for standard scaffold advertising, and 350gsm mesh once the banner gets large, goes high, or sits in an exposed position. Both print in full colour, both are made to custom sizes, and both take the same eyelet and pole pocket finishing — the difference is entirely in the surface.
510gsm PVC Scaffold Banners
510gsm PVC is a solid, matte-finish banner material with no perforations. Everything printed on it holds its full density: brand colours stay saturated, photographs keep their detail, and a phone number stays sharp at the size you set it. It is the default specification for scaffold banners, and for most jobs there is no reason to look further.
Reach for PVC when:
- the banner is a typical bay-width size — 6ft × 3ft, 8ft × 3ft, 2m × 1m, 3m × 1m;
- brand colour needs to match a van, a website or existing signage;
- the scaffold sits on a normal residential or high-street elevation with some shelter;
- you want the banner to screen the scaffold from view as well as advertise on it;
- the design carries small type — service lists, addresses, accreditation logos.
510gsm is a heavyweight banner grade, welded at the hems so every eyelet pulls against two layers of material rather than one. The same material runs through our standard vinyl banners range.
350gsm Mesh Scaffold Banners
350gsm PVC mesh is perforated across its whole surface. Those openings let a proportion of the wind pass through the banner rather than push against it, which lowers the wind loading compared with a solid PVC face of the same size. That is the entire reason mesh exists in this market, and it is why large scaffold graphics are almost always specified in it.
Specify mesh when:
- the banner exceeds roughly 3m in either direction;
- it is going onto an upper lift rather than at ground level;
- the site is exposed — open ground, a corner plot, a coastal town, a top-floor elevation;
- your scaffold contractor or designer has asked for a permeable material;
- working platforms behind the banner need some daylight and air movement.
The cost of that airflow is a slight loss of print density — a portion of the surface is open, so colour reads marginally softer and very fine detail loses a little edge under close inspection. At the distance a scaffold banner is actually read from, nobody notices. Mesh is also the cheaper material at every size band, which is why it frequently wins on both technical grounds and budget. A wording point worth being precise about: mesh reduces wind loading relative to solid PVC. It is not windproof, and it does not change the fact that the scaffold and the fixing arrangement have to be suitable for whatever you hang on them.

Read the bottom two rows together. At small sizes the price gap between the materials is a couple of pounds and the decision is purely technical. At large sizes mesh saves you £16 on the same banner while also being the safer specification — so on big scaffold work the choice is rarely a compromise.
Scaffolding Banner Prices
A 2ft × 2ft PVC scaffolding banner costs £8.20, and a 6ft × 3ft — the most commonly ordered trade size — costs £29.70. Pricing is worked out from the printed area in square feet, with the rate per square foot falling in bands as the banner gets bigger. Nothing about a custom size costs extra: a banner made to fit your scaffold exactly costs the same as any other banner of the same area.

The Square-Foot Rate Bands
Multiply width in feet by height in feet, find the band your total falls into, and multiply by the rate. A 3m × 1m banner is 32.29 sq ft, which sits in the 24.01–40 band at £1.62, giving £52.31 in PVC.

Scaffold Banner Sizes That Fit Standard UK Scaffold Bays
Every banner is cut to the width and height you enter, but most orders cluster around a handful of dimensions because UK scaffold bays and lift heights are fairly consistent. Buyers work in both imperial and metric, so both are listed.

The material column is the point of this table. Rather than choosing PVC or mesh in the abstract, find your size and read across — the recommendation already accounts for how much wind that area of banner will catch on a scaffold.
Maximum single-piece print width is 3.2m. Wider banners are produced as panels and hot-welded into one piece at any overall size, with the weld positioned where it disappears into the artwork.
Fixing Your Banner: Eyelets, Pole Pockets and Hemming
The finishing choice follows from how you intend to fix the banner. Eyelets are for tying to tubes; pole pockets are for threading tubes through. Both work on scaffold, and on larger banners the strongest specification uses both.
Eyelets
Eyelets are metal rings punched through a hemmed edge and tied to the scaffold with heavy-duty cable ties, bungees or banner ties. They are the most adaptable option because you can fix to whatever tube happens to be in the right place, and they are what most trade-size banners ship with.
Configurations available:
- Four corners only — minimum viable, small sheltered banners only.
- Every 50cm all round — the standard scaffold recommendation and the right default above about 2m wide.
- Three top, three bottom — the common setup on 6ft × 3ft and 8ft × 3ft banners.
- Top edge only — for hanging banners, though rarely the right call on scaffold.
- Every 50cm top and bottom, corners on the sides — for banners strung between two horizontal tubes.
- Custom positions — send us where your tubes actually sit and we will punch to match.
There is essentially no such thing as too many eyelets on a scaffold banner. Every extra tie point takes load off the others, and the way under-fixed banners fail is a corner eyelet tearing out in the first serious gust.
Pole Pockets
A pole pocket is a sleeve formed along the banner edge for a scaffold tube to pass through. Instead of the banner hanging from a handful of tie points, the tube supports it along its entire length — which keeps it flat, keeps it quiet, and removes the flapping that shortens a banner’s life more than weather ever does.
Pockets can be specified on the top edge, bottom edge, both, or on the left and right sides for vertical standards. Standard UK scaffold tube is 48.3mm in outside diameter, so tell us the tube size and we will build in enough clearance to thread easily without leaving slack. Remember that a pocket consumes material — the visible printed area finishes smaller than the cut size, so keep artwork out of the pocket allowance.
Pole pockets are worth specifying when the banner is long, when it is going somewhere exposed, when it needs to stay taut for months, or when you want a clean top edge with no visible ties.
Hemming
Hemming folds and welds the edge back on itself for a double thickness. Every eyelet we fit goes through a hem, which is the difference between an eyelet that holds and an eyelet that pulls through. Even on banners with no eyelets, a hem stops edge fraying over a long installation. It costs very little and there is rarely a reason to skip it outdoors.
Cable Ties and Bungees
Cable ties are the fastest fixing for an eyeleted banner — one per eyelet, two in each corner, threaded through the eyelet and around the tube. Bungee cords or elasticated banner ties are the alternative where you want some give in the fixing rather than a rigid tie, which can help on very exposed sites by absorbing gusts instead of transmitting them into the corners.

Fitting a Banner to Scaffolding Safely
Fix at every provided point, tension evenly, and attach to the scaffold’s horizontal tubes rather than to boards, netting or sheeting. Beyond that, the sequence matters more than most people expect.
- Offer the banner up and check it spans the tubes you intend to use before committing to any fixing.
- For pole pockets, thread the tube through before it is fixed into the structure, or install a dedicated tube for the banner.
- For eyelets, work top corners first, then along the top edge, then the bottom, then the sides.
- Tighten lightly on the first pass so the banner can still be adjusted, then go round again pulling the tension even.
- Double-tie every corner. Corners carry the highest load and fail first.
- Re-check after the first week and after any significant wind, and re-tension where it has gone slack.
Safety and consent — read this before you order: hanging a banner, sheet or net on scaffolding changes the wind load the structure has to carry. HSE guidance in the UK is explicit that sheeting, netting and advertising banners affect scaffold design, and that the intention to fit them must be passed to the scaffold provider or designer so the structure can be designed with the additional loading in mind — which may mean extra ties or bracing. Confirm with your scaffold contractor or a competent scaffold designer that both the structure and your proposed fixings are suitable before fitting. Mesh lowers wind loading compared with solid PVC but does not remove that obligation. Single-Sided or Double-Sided Scaffold Banners?
Order single-sided when the banner sits flat against a building, and double-sided when people approach from two directions. Most scaffold banners are single-sided for the simple reason that the wall is directly behind them.
When Single-Sided Is Right
Any banner fixed flat to the face of a scaffold with the building immediately behind it. There is nothing to see on the reverse, so printing it is money spent on a hidden surface. Every price on this page is based on single-sided production.
When Double-Sided Earns Its Cost
- Corner plots where the scaffold turns and two roads feed traffic past it.
- End-of-run banners across a gable or the open end of a scaffold, read from both directions along the street.
- Free-hanging banners on outriggers or brackets, standing clear of the building.
- Pavement gantries and bridge scaffolds where pedestrians pass underneath and see both faces.
Different Artwork on Each Side
Yes, the two faces can carry entirely different designs. Send two print-ready files labelled front and back, built to the same dimensions. Contractors commonly run sales messaging toward the main road and site or safety information toward the compound. If the two designs must not show through one another at all, speak to the production team before ordering so the right construction is specified for your size.
Designing a Scaffold Banner That Works From the Street
One logo, one service message, one phone number, one web address. That is the whole formula, and the most common mistake is trying to fit more. A scaffold banner gets two or three seconds of attention from across a road, often at an angle and frequently from a moving car — so the design job is removing things, not adding them.
What performs:
- One dominant message. “Roofing & Leadwork” beats a nine-item service list every time.
- Type sized for the distance. Roughly 25mm of letter height per 10m of viewing distance is a serviceable rule.
- Hard contrast. Dark on light or light on dark. Mid-tone on mid-tone vanishes at 20m.
- A short web address. People remember a domain far more reliably than eleven digits.
- Empty space. If the design looks sparse on your monitor, it is probably correct on the scaffold.
- Logo at one end, not centred — so it stays visible if debris netting or boards obscure part of the banner.
What fails: body copy, thin or script typefaces, text over busy photography, QR codes fifteen metres up, and anything important sitting inside the pole pocket or eyelet allowance where it gets folded away or punched through.
Safe area: keep text and logos at least 50mm inside the trim on eyeleted banners, and clear of the full pocket depth plus 50mm where pole pockets are specified. Background colours and images should run right off the edge into the bleed.
Artwork Requirements and How to Send Your Files
Supply print-ready artwork at checkout, email it after ordering, or let our studio produce it. Every file is checked before it reaches the printer, and we will come back to you about a problem rather than print something we already know will disappoint — though on express orders, that conversation is the thing most likely to cost you a day, so getting the file right first time genuinely matters.
- Size: build at the finished banner dimensions, or at a clean scale.
- Resolution: 150 DPI at full size is enough for banners read at distance. Use 300 DPI for panels viewed close up at ground level.
- Scaled artwork: build at 25% of final size at 300 DPI — it prints identically at full size and keeps files manageable.
- Bleed: 3–5mm on all four edges.
- Safe area: 50mm inside the trim, plus the full pocket depth where pole pockets are used.
- Colour: CMYK, so colour stays consistent across the full span of the banner.
- Fonts: outlined or converted to curves.
- Formats: print-ready PDF preferred; AI, EPS, PSD, TIFF, JPEG and PNG accepted.
- Large files: send via WeTransfer, Google Drive or Dropbox — full-size banner artwork routinely exceeds email limits.

Who Orders Scaffolding Banners
Scaffold advertising works because the structure is already sitting in the best position on the street: at height, facing the pavement, attached to a building that people are actively looking at. Different trades use it differently.
Scaffolding Contractors
Scaffolding companies typically hold a stock design in a repeatable size — 6ft × 3ft or 8ft × 3ft in PVC with eyelets every 50cm — so a banner goes up on every erection with no lead time at all. Keep the design free of anything job-specific, since the same banner travels between sites for years.
Builders and Renovation Contractors
Domestic builders get the most direct return, because the audience is the street the work is happening on. Neighbours can see the quality of the job in front of them, and they are the people most likely to need the same trade next. At £29.70 for a 6ft × 3ft, most builders order two or three and rotate them across live jobs.
Roofing Companies
Roofing puts scaffold at the top of the elevation, so the banner is read from further away and at a steeper angle. Size type accordingly and lean toward long, shallow formats — 10ft × 3ft or 3m × 1m — running along the guttering line where they sit naturally.
Property Developers
Developer banners carry more information than trade banners: scheme name, unit types, agent details, launch dates, sometimes funder and contractor logos. That argues for going larger rather than compressing everything. A 4m × 1m mesh banner at £58.56 gives room for a proper information hierarchy that a 6ft × 3ft simply cannot.
Commercial and Main Contractors
Commercial sites usually need a coordinated set: scaffold banners on the elevation, fence banners around the perimeter, crowd barrier covers along pedestrian routes and rigid sign boards for safety and project information. Ordering together keeps the branding consistent and the delivery dates aligned.

When a Banner Becomes a Wrap
A scaffold banner is a discrete graphic on part of a scaffold; a wrap covers most or all of a visible elevation. As the area grows, mesh stops being an option and becomes the default, and the graphic is produced as multiple hot-welded panels because single-piece width tops out at 3.2m. Wraps are quoted individually — send the elevation dimensions and a photograph of the scaffold and we will come back with a specification and price.
